Atf+4 is pretty much a dealer item. Transmission in question is a 1954 dual range 4. Historically, every atf specification that gm or allison has issued was sent to afton where the di package was developed. From what i understand there is difference and it may not be a good idea to try to substitute atf+3. Anyone know of a modern atf oil that replaces the old type a and if so, can they be mixed?
